This might be the finest advert ever produced.
We could be mean about it but quite frankly it’s a thing of JOY. The music! The outfits! The choreography! It’s brought a tear to our eye.
A tiny travel agent has been inundated with bookings from all over the UK after its cheesy online promo went viral with more than 250,000 views.
Since Thorne Travel in Kilwinning, Ayrshire, uploaded the wacky video to YouTube on Thursday, customer numbers have doubled.
The hilarious video sees the female staff take over Kilwinning town centre in the pink and black dresses they wear to work.
They are joined by male staff member Ian Gowans dressed in a black shirt and pink to a soundtrack by hitmakers Swedish House Mafia.
Manager Shona Thorne, who is seen leading the pink procession in the advert, told the Daily Record : “Compared to normal, our sales have increased by 110 per cent since the video went online.
“I’m meant to be on holiday and I had to come into the shop today because we were so busy.”
It’s not just locals who have been rushing to book a trip with Thorne Travel, as the advert has picked up fans from all over Britain.
Travel consultant Christiane McCorgray, 24, said: “We’ve had people from all over Scotland wanting to book holidays with us, and someone from London phoned on Friday to book a trip.
“We got an email from someone in Chicago as well, just to say they thought the advert was really good.
“The phones haven’t stopped ringing and the store’s been mobbed, so it’s all been very positive.”
Shona, who started up Thorne Travel in 2009, came up with the idea for the three-minute video in March this year.
With the support of customers, local businesses, friends and family, and after finding the right production company, the wheels were put in motion.
Shona, 53, said: “So many people come into our shop and say it’s like no other travel agents they’ve ever been in.
“We wanted to spread that message, and I thought that by making a fun, tongue-in-cheek advert, would maybe do that.
“I didn’t expect what’s happened though, we thought it would probably just be our normal customers who’d see it, so it’s been a bit of a surprise.
“We shot it in May but I wanted to hold off its release until all our regular customers would be back their summer holidays, so we put it up last week to add a bit of fun and colour to winter.”
She added: “We tried lots of different production companies but they were all too corporate, which just isn’t us.
“Then we eventually found AMD productions in Glasgow and they just got us.
“One of their producers who does base jumping even put on one of our uniforms and did a jump for the end of the video.”
As well as the ladies, who Shona says are “like the Virgin Airways girls, only a bit more real”, the video features a bride, a man dressed as a woman, Mickey and Minnie mouse, and a local hairdresser in an ill-fitting captain’s uniform, who has proven to be a particular hit.
Charles Alexander, 43, who works in Charles Alexander hair salon across the road from Thorne Travel on Kilwinning High Street, said: “I’m always up for a laugh, so offered to help out.
“It was a lot of fun but I can’t believe it’s been so popular.
“I haven’t seen the advert since it went online because I’ve been so busy.”
