Ísafjörður is a small fishing town in Iceland which recently became very popular thanks to their amazing idea. People of this town are dealing with the same traffic problems as anywhere else in this world. The only difference is the way they are dealing with those inattentive drivers. Their exciting development may have just revolutionized the entire area of road safety.
There are many ways to reduce speeding, but they are not so effective, to put it mildly. Town of Ísafjörður came up with a more cunning tactics and it seems to work like a charm. They invented a seemingly floating crosswalks! It’s actually a a cleverly-detailed optical illusion. Pedestrian crossings have been painted so it seems like the zebra stripes are elevated. A 3D crosswalk – genius!
From driver’s point of view, travelers look like are walking on air, and it gets their attention. They are sure to slow down when they stumble upon something like this.
I would love to see one of these in my city and how about you? Watch the video and tell us what you think about it.
