Jadav Payeng is a man who lives on the island of Majuli in India. Before the agricultural development this once beautiful place was covered with forests. Unfortunately, years of human influence had turned it into an eroding wasteland.
Back in 1979, Jadev decided to do something about it and went on a mission. Every day he planted a tree and he kept doing this for the last 38 years. The dedicated arborist managed to turn his island into a tropical paradise bigger than Central Park.
Today, it’s a beautiful place and people are not the only ones who think this way. 550-hectare forest is now a home for 115 elephants, rhino, deer, and tigers.
An amazing story and even more amazing man. This world would be much better if we would have more people like him.
