Jenevieve Cook was 28 weeks pregnant when doctors noticed her baby wasn’t growing properly. They immediately induced early labor and Matthew Riddle III was born. He weighed only one pound and two ounces, and first prognosis was that Matthew’s brain had stopped growing and that he wouldn’t live much longer. Parents were in shock!
Fortunately doctors were wrong. After 98 days in NICU, Matthew was diagnosed with a rare condition called microcephalic osteodysplastic primordial dwarfism type II (MOPDII), also known as primordial dwarfism. This meant that he would be able to do everything else as other children, except he would be extraordinarily small.
Now, Matthew is 7 months old and weighs a little under four pounds. There is still a long way of recovery ahead of him, and we hope he will always have that cute little smile on his face.
Please share Matthew’s story to spread awareness for his condition.
